Currently lying on the bed after a cool shower but let's start at the beginning. We decided to do our chores aka shopping before we went out so after a bit of a sleep in (seems to be a habit over here cause it's light so late) we set off for the supermarket. Got the obligatory fruit, yoghurt , bread etc We made scrambled eggs as we thought we might need a bit of protein! We had decided to start with the easier walk today however these plans were thwarted as the first two legs of the trail were closed due to previous rain causing it to be dangerous. We were going to get the train to the first village, Riomaggiore then walk to Manarola, the second village. The track from Manarola to Corniglia was also closed. That left two options, the hard walk or the harder walk. We opted for a train to the fifth village, Monterosso and walking back to the fourth village, Vernazzo. It was quite a challenge. A lot of climbing at the beginning, lots of steps and the track was quite rough. But the views made it all worth while. The ocean was a spectacular azure blue and so clear and the sun was glimmering on the water. The villages looked gorgeous with th
eir oranges and yellows. It took us about 2 hours at a steady pace. We did stop for lunch we had packed this morning but that was our only stop apart from short breathers.
Leaving Monterosso
Helen looking a little hot and sweaty when we stopped for lunch
